The Tacoma Rose Society is about more than just roses. It’s a living, breathing organization that’s dedicated to educating about the most beautiful flower in the garden. This dedication and support from each of you is what has kept it strong through 2 world wars – and now a pandemic – since 1911. And it shows.
You can also enjoy the beauty of rose color and texture by growing them in patio containers. All types of roses can be grown in containers – it’s very simple provided you follow a few simple guidelines.
Start with two rules that can kick-start the process of laying out a landscape, then move on to guidelines that help in scaling the proportions of a garden’s elements and, finally, to choosing and using the right plants.
The fact that I can build designs the day before a show, and have them look just as fresh the next day, has given me a competitive edge at eight national rose shows.

The AARS selection was regarded as the most prestigious rose prize in the U.S. for 73 years, but AARS was discontinued after 2013 and replaced by the updated American Garden Rose Selections (AGRS) program which continues now in 2020.
In 2017, after years of discussion and fundraising, the American Rose Society launched the ‘Great Garden Restoration Project’ – an ambitious 5 year plan to restore and improve the gardens at the American Rose Center by 2022.

Why a ‘Rosie the Riveter’ garden?
American rosarians can plant 3-12 of the ‘Rosie the Riveter’ rose bushes in our major community gardens to honor these overlooked female heroes of WWII.
It will continue to inspire future generations of young American women.
